George Banco Staff Attend Forever Friends Appeal Fund Raising Event the Beckington Ball
Earlier this month, the staff from George Banco Ltd were delighted to attend the fantastic fund raising event for the Royal United Hospital (RUH) Forever Friends Appeal, the Beckington Ball.
The Beckington Ball is an event set up in order to bring together locally based businesses, large and small, in order to raise much needed funds for good causes. This year’s event organiser and Chairman Mark Wilson put on a fabulous show for those involved, and made it a roaring success. Even the weather played its part adding to a beautiful evening.
The evening itself raised an amazing £29,000 in funds for the Forever Friends Appeal in order to help the Royal United Hospital develop their new and much needed cancer wing. Funds were raised in a number of different ways, from sponsoring tables to donating prizes for the evening’s raffle draw, the generosity just kept coming. There was even an auction of promises, with prizes ranging from day trips to local experience events.
The Forever Friends Appeal is a hard working charity set up by the Royal United Hospital in order to raise funds for equipment and resources that go beyond NHS capabilities. It was started back in 1999 with the aim of providing up-to-date facilities that meet the demands of modern healthcare.
The Appeal was instrumental in raising the funds for a new CT scanner back in 2007, as well as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for premature babies which was completed in 2010.
The funds raised by the Beckington Ball event are going towards the Forever Friends Appeal’s latest campaign to help fund the new Cancer Centre. Its patrons Sir James and Lady Deirdre Dyson believe that this centre can revolutionise cancer care in the southwest. The new cancer centre aims to be a centre of excellence in the UK and is on track to be completed in 2019.
Mark Wilson, Chairman and Organiser commented:
We are immensely grateful to the team at George Banco for getting involved and helping towards raising the huge amounts needed to fund this new cancer centre. It is heart-warming to get such a fantastic response for such a worthy local cause.
George Thomas, Director George Banco Ltd commented:
We are delighted to be involved with the local community at this level. We ourselves have had a number of staff affected by cancer, and so from both a company and personal perspective it was an easy decision to become a part of this. Thanks to Mark and all involved for a great evening.
